Tomorrow’s possibilities in today’s world
The Forum, an eye-catching building in Groningen’s historic city centre is for everyone who is curious about tomorrow’s world: Globalisation, Digitisation, Visual culture and Technology. Within this building are international exhibitions, the Storyworld museum, a cinema, the public library, a Smartlab, a skylounge bar + restaurant and a roof terrace with a phenomenal panoramic view. The majority of the building is freely accessible, including the city library’s collections which can be found on different floors as well as the many comfortable study, work and meeting places. This is a new-style public amenity, the traditional boundaries between these institutions are simply eliminated, making it possible to endlessly browse the building.
Part of the facility are four screening rooms including the 270° projection theatre, which has screen areas on three sides of the audience and includes stage equipment and retractable seating for inventive, cross-over, educational presentations. This space is the beginning of a new theatre type that may forever change our idea of the black box and certainly appeals to the new generation. The future is here.
